How long does it take for Yaz to become effective?
I just started taking Yaz last month. Today, I took the 4th pill in my second pack. I ended up having unprotected sex today, but he didn't finish inside of me. Is there any chance of pregnancy? I started taking it to regulate my period, so the first time I took it wasn't on the first day of my period, like it's supposed to be. Would that have any effect, either?

- Generally they say 1-3 months, but even under full protection, it's still possible to get pregnant. It's probably unlikely however in your scenario. However, wait to see if you miss your period and then test if you do.
- Most birth control pills take about a month to become "fully" active, so you should be fine. If he didn't finish inside you, there's very, very little chance of you being pregnant. Also, they tell you to take it on the first day of your period to make sure that you weren't ALREADY pregnant when you started the pill. I wouldn't be worried. :)
- it normally takes 3-6 months to get into ur system...ask ur dr the 2nd question cuz that sometimes has to depend on ur medical history...just a phone call would do.
- if you start taking the pill in the first five days of your cycle (the first day of your period is day one), you are protected IMMEDIATELY. If you start at any other point in your cycle, you are protected after SEVEN DAYS of active pills. There is no need to wait a month, a cycle, two months, etc., etc. You are protected after seven days of active pills. According to Planned Parenthood: "If you start the combination pill within five days after the start of your period, take the first active pill of the first pack. You will not need to use a back up method of birth control. You are protected against pregnancy immediately. If you start the combination pill at any other time during your menstrual cycle, take the first active pill of the first pack. Use another method of birth control if you have vaginal intercourse during the first week of combination pill use — protection will begin after seven days." It is really frustrating to me that people keep posting that the pill takes months to become effective! It doesn't! Read the pill insert and the links I provided!
